Kamala Harris touched down in all three “Blue Wall” states on Monday with Liz Cheney, who predicted there would be a secret Republican vote for the Democratic nominee in order to stymie a second term of Donald Trump.
“It’s not about party, it’s about right and wrong. And I certainly have many Republicans who will say to me, ‘I can’t be public,’ … but they’ll do the right thing,” Cheney said. “If you’re at all concerned, you can vote your conscience and not ever have to say a word to anybody. There will be millions of Republicans who do that on November 5th.”
The decision for Harris to spend an entire day campaigning with one of the most ideologically conservative congresswomen of recent time is a remarkable moment for both women that underlines an urgent Democratic pitch to a core Republican-leaning constituency: Suburban women.
Suburban women strongly contributed to Joe Biden’s victories in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, as well as in Georgia, in 2020. And the Harris campaign is attempting to bank an even stronger margin with that voter set in order to make up for potential losses of Black and Hispanic men.
