2024 Washingtonian Policy Influencer Nomination Details
Deadlines and directives for submitting a candidate for our 2024 list.
Nominations for Washingtonian Magazine’s annual list of the 500 most influential federal policy players in Washington are now ~open~.
Many of you have already been in touch about our 2024 edition, but here are the guidelines and ground-rules for submissions. Apologies in advance, but due to the volume of submissions and questions received, I won’t be able to respond to every query. (But yes, be sure, I’ve received your email.)
I’m hopeful the following set of bullet points address most questions we receive. Sharing this post with your network far and wide is highly encouraged.
Each nominee should exemplify specific influence on a particular federal policy during the last year ~or~ more broadly and deeply over their career tenure. The best submissions are specific on relevance and impact but pithy.
HERE is last year’s list. Frankly, it’s your best guide to what we’re looking for.
Common flawed submission: David Catanese wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post in May and is heralded as an extraordinary facilitator of ideas and superb connector of the powerful. {Pastes full website bio} Better submission: After meeting with staffers on the Senate Banking Committee, Catanese’s proposal to change how much financial institutions can charge customers for withdrawal fees was added as an amendment that was the center of a July congressional hearing.
Nominees CANNOT currently hold a position INSIDE the federal government. We don’t include senators, Capitol Hill chiefs of staff or National Security Agency members. This list is meant to capture the outsiders who influence these government officials and agencies.
A nominee should fall into one of our 18 policy categories which can be reviewed HERE. Yes, you should specify the category you are nominating for.
As you browse the categories, is there someone missing in a policy silo who hasn’t been recognized for their work? Someone NEW, but overlooked? Tell me more.
Nominations should not exceed 50 words. If you do, it better be worth it.
Please send along the full name, title and company of the nominee.
Candidates must reside in the DMV area to be considered.
The deadline for 2024 policy nominees: Monday, Dec. 4th @ NOON. Lots of submissions trickle in during January and February and many are compelling. But, alas, at this point you are counting on someone else being dropped during our vetting and editing process. It happens, but your odds shrink appreciably. Move faster, it matters.
Send all submissions to: davecatanese@gmail.com
The issue will publish in the spring of 2024. The 2024 publication date is still being solidified, but last year’s went live online on April 27, 2023 to give you a ballpark of our timeline.
